You are cordially invited to take part in the conference “Filling the gaps: e-skills and education for digital jobs” on 4 and 5 March 2013 in the Marriott Hotel in Brussels. The Conference will officially launch of the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs by adopting a shared roadmap and announcing pledges from stakeholders committing to jointly undertake specific actions.

The Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs is an EU-wide multi-stakeholder partnership seeking to address the shortfall of several hundred thousands of unfilled ICT employment vacancies in Europe. It brings together ICT and non-ICT companies, employment services, education and training providers and other players. This partnership was announced in the Commission’s Employment Package of April 2012; it is open to all interested stakeholders.

The method of the Grand Coalition is to facilitate joint action by the various stakeholders where this is more efficient than individual action. Its objective is to eliminate the gap of ICT practitioners by 2020. In order to achieve this objective, it will try to increase ICT training and education offers, improve the matching of candidates with available vacancies, raise awareness about the benefits of an ICT career, foster cross-border mobility for ICT practitioners, and promote the adoption of an accreditation system of ICT skills. The Commission encourages stakeholders to come forward with pledges for concrete action at their level (European, national, regional) to fill the ICT jobs gap.
Top-level participation, by invitation only, is expected at this high-profile event. It provides the opportunity for stakeholders to announce their own commitments or to join initiatives by other stakeholders. In addition, a shared roadmap should be agreed upon and signed.
